Team roping is a timed rodeo event where two riders—called the header and the heeler—work together to rope a steer. The header ropes the steer’s horns (or head), then turns the steer so the heeler can rope its hind legs. Both riders must work in sync, and the clock stops when the steer is caught and the ropes are tight. Penalties are given for mistakes like only catching one leg. It’s the only rodeo event with two competitors working as a team.
