In the quiet stillness of the Bethlehem night, Mary, a young mother, cradled her newborn son in the humble manger. The soft glow of a guiding star cast its gentle light upon the scene, illuminating the precious face of the baby Jesus. As Mary marveled at the tiny hands and innocent eyes of her child, she felt an otherworldly presence drawing near.
Silhouetted against the starlit sky, three wise men approached with regal bearing. Mary watched with a mix of awe and gratitude as they presented their gifts to her precious babe. The first, bearing a gift of gleaming gold, knelt with a reverence that spoke of recognizing the royal destiny that lay before her son. The richness of the gold hinted at the greatness that would unfold in this tiny, unassuming manger.
As Mary gazed upon the gifts bestowed upon her child, she understood that these offerings were not just treasures but symbols woven into the fabric of a divine plan. The gold spoke of kingship, the frankincense of a sacred calling, and the myrrh of sacrifice. In the quiet of that Bethlehem night, with a baby in a manger, Mary held in her heart the weight of the gifts and the promise they carried for her extraordinary son and the world he would one day transform.
Depicted on the obverse is the Scottsdale Mint Lion along with the verse Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men", along with the weight and purity.
The reverse depicts the manger scene in a traditional Christian style, with Mary and Joesph on both sides of the Baby Jesus and the manger. Livestock and Palm branches are nearby, and stars dot the scene, including the Bethlehem Star above it all.
Along the rim, The Nativity coin bears a hymn with profound significance. In English, it beautifully expresses the miraculous birth: "Today, the virgin bears Him who is transcendent, and the earth presents the cave to Him who is beyond reach. Angels, along with shepherds, glorify Him. The Magi make their way to Him by a star. For a new child has been born for us, the God before all ages."
The corresponding Greek text, rich in linguistic elegance, provides a deeper connection to the hymn's roots
