Texas Precious Metals has officially earned the Guinness World Records title for the World's Heaviest Silver Coin. The record was announced and the coin unveiled on July 1, 2026, at Arena Hall in Austin, Texas, during a certification ceremony timed to America's Semiquincentennial celebration. Manufactured in partnership with Sunshine Minting, the 2,500 troy ounce .9999 fine silver coin commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence.
The record-setting coin carries a reverse proof finish and a $250 legal-tender face value, measuring 18 inches in diameter with a reeded edge. It was verified at a final weight of 173 pounds and 14 ounces during the official adjudication.
Saab described the symbolism built into the design: "In the coin itself, we celebrate the 50 stars for the 50 states, the 13 arrows for the 13 original colonies, and the reeded edge has 250 reeds on it to celebrate the 250 years. The obverse has the Statue of Liberty. It's something we're really proud of — and we're world record holders."
The official Guinness World Records adjudicator, Michael Empre, traveled from Guinness World Records' New York office to Austin to oversee the weighing and certification.
"Hello, everyone. My name is Michael Empre from Guinness World Records in New York, and I'm here today because this is an official Guinness World Records attempt at the heaviest silver coin," Empre said before the final measurement was announced. "After the professional weighers took their surveying and measurements of the coin, I can now announce that Texas Precious Metals and Sunshine Minting had a final measurement of 173 pounds and 14 ounces. They blew that minimum out of the water — and it is a new Guinness World Records title."
The announcement was met with applause from the assembled crowd at Arena Hall.
"Setting a Guinness World Records title is an incredible achievement, but what makes this project especially meaningful is what it represents," said Tarek Saab, CEO and Co-founder of Texas Precious Metals. "This coin was created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence, one of the defining moments in our nation's history. We are proud to have partnered with Sunshine Minting to bring this vision to life and demonstrate what can be achieved through American craftsmanship, precision, and innovation."
Saab reflected on the coin's design details: "In the coin itself, we celebrate the 50 stars for the 50 states, the 13 arrows for the 13 original colonies, and the reeded edge has 250 reeds on it to celebrate the 250 years. The obverse has the Statue of Liberty. It's something we're really proud of — and we're world record holders."
On the origins of the project, Saab noted: "It's the 250th anniversary of the country, and we started thinking, what can we do to celebrate American exceptionalism. We live in Texas. Everything's bigger in Texas. And so we thought, what would it take for us to make the world's heaviest silver coin?"
The coin was manufactured by Sunshine Minting at its facility in Henderson, Nevada. The project required 448 man-hours of stone and polish work and 168 consecutive hours of CNC machining per side.
Tom Power of Sunshine Minting described how the project came together: "What's the biggest coin that we could manufacture? What's the biggest coin that'll fit into our CNC machines and into our furnace? We did our calculations and came up with — I believe — 5,500 ounces. That's really where it started."
The final coin came in at 2,500 troy ounces, the result of engineering requirements that balanced the ambition of the record attempt with the practical constraints of the manufacturing process.
"It was certainly a process — the engineering feat that had to go into designing and making sure that we had the equipment to be able to pull this off with Sunshine Mint, our partners," Saab said. "But in the end, we ended up with just an absolute piece of art."
The record drew coverage from numismatic, bullion, and wire service media following the July 1 announcement. The following outlets covered the story:

Guinness World Records also published a dedicated editorial feature on the coin, titled "Texas Company Skillfully Engraves Largest Silver Coin to Celebrate USA's 250th Birthday," detailing the engineering achievement and TPM's partnership with Sunshine Minting.
GlobeNewswire distributed the announcement on July 1, 2026, reaching financial and commodity wire audiences across North America and internationally.
CoinWeek, one of the leading publications covering the rare coin, currency, and bullion hobby, published a detailed feature on July 6, 2026. The publication reported that the coin occupies a unique position at "the intersection of numismatics, bullion, engineering, and national spectacle," noting that the 2,500 troy-ounce silver content means that a $1 movement in the silver price changes the coin's melt value by $2,500. CoinWeek characterized the piece as genuinely unprecedented in scale and covered the certification ceremony, the coin's physical specifications, and its significance as an America 250 commemorative.
The official ceremony video, published on the Texas Precious Metals YouTube channel, captures the Guinness adjudication, the announcement of the final weight, and the Austin crowd's reaction.
The coin arrives in 2026 as the United States marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Semiquincentennial has prompted commemorative projects across government, arts, and industry, but the Texas Precious Metals America 250 coin stands out as both a Guinness World Records holder and the largest privately minted silver legal-tender coin in American history.
